Auto Stage 1 guys, Tired of not boosting consistent?
Well i have been reading alot on the forums and alot of trial and error in regards to people (myself included) talking about the boost levels varying on the autos.
If you put the car in competitive mode (hit traction control button twice) and drive the car in "I" it will boost a constant psi everytime you floor it. I have done a dozen or so pulls with great success. Don't matter if it's at 40mph or 60mph.
I tried the car just in the "I" mode and it did what it would before, so something about competitive mode and the "I" mode works great together on the stage 1.
Now i don't exactly understand why this happens but hey, it works.

It works this way because......this setup is highly controlled by the computer..in normal mode the brakes, boost control, timing and VVT are all regulated to prevent ANY abnormalities for damaging this equipment and costing GM any money for warrenty work,( for the uninformed Joe public daily driver who only bought it because it said SS))..now , there are those of us that like to play , therefore,we are more informed on 'how' it works and more prone to not over abusing the car so they set it up to disable some of these 'control' features to allow a more spirited romp thru the twisty's. I'm sure there are a few SS owners out there that have no clue to what the boost gauge is even for! Anyways..it was set up for the average driver who don't reconize when there is a problem or only know how to drive with gas ON or brake ON....and sometimes both if they having Toyota flashbacks....
Oh yeah....next time try holding the button in for 10 seconds untill the ESC OFF lite comes on,,,then try it again, better hold on though cause you don't know which way the car will want to go..seriously.

I agree the boost is controled for a reason and I will be glad to trade a couple pounds now and then for a tranny that lives.
The wost thing GM did is put the gauge in this vehicle. If it was gone few would know there are any changed done by the computer.
Now I know why I have a genric led in the GTP. Pontiac knew better than to put numbers on it.

I only drive mine in Comp (when dry out) mode. Its too inconsistent in regular mode. A GM engineer at tech line told me that the boost is controlled for reasons......one of them being the tranny is not very strong and would end up in a million pieces if not controlled.......

It varies on manual trans as well. I can almost predict my boost levels, as soon as I feel the air when I walk out the door. But the acceleration is pretty constant regardless. The boost pressure is regulated by many control facets, but also by atmospheric conditions (one of the things that I understand better than other things). You will see higher numbers on your guage when energy content in the air (known as enthalpy) is optimal per seasonal conditions. Also by altitude (air density).
I don't worry about fluxuating boose pressures (unless they were extreme or unusual, of course). I just enjoy driving my SS.

Yep this is not the old days where one boost fits all.
If you have not had a lot of seat time in the old turbo set ups they were not all that great. The lag and performace varied much with the weather. Today they are more powerful with two very old transmissions. To give the best drivability and to kill performance under conditions where the tranny wil not if fail you will get some variance.
Now put some tape over it and I bet you could not tell where the boost is.

I took my Aero Force gauge and made the annunciator lights come on at 20 PSI and I never look at it any other time.
