Better performance, cut-out or aftermarket exhaust?

You didn't say you had a funding issue. You are limited to a cut out and thats it. You asked for performance gains and I gave you what I thought. I am telling you from exp not from just something I made up. I good exhaust system is the best way to go as a total. Cutouts are loud and can get annoying and bring unwanted attention. Get the cut-out if you don't have money or just save up for a good exhaust.
That would be ideal, but also the most expensive route, which is what I am trying to avoid. Obviously that would seem that I am limiting myself to getting the cut-out, but that is not my intentions. I don't have a boatload of $$$$ to spend right now, so obviously the cut-out is the most reasonable option, and with the ability to go from stock to open is great as well, but if it would provide better gains to go aftermarket I would honestly rather go that route. The biggest problem is the cheapest exhaust system I have found is $300, ranging up from there, and when you start throwing in downpipes and all that, the figures go up fast! I was planning to spend around maybe $600 total, but I want the most for my money. I was trying to walk through what creates these gains in these systems, and I thought it was having the most free-flowing system that would provide the most power, and a cut-out would be just that as it eliminate all restrictions, but if that is not the case then please someone elaborate and let me know how all this plays in and what system provides the best gains at this time.

The info I am referring to is the difference in gains between a cut-out and a performance exhaust set-up. If it is both better for gains and cheaper to go with a cut-out, and you can switch back to stock at any time, then why would anyone spend so much on an exhaust system?

Well I got 7 H/P more out of my E-cut-out so thats alot and enough for me...and for my other vehicle it actually gave me 14.88 h/p more...I got the proof for the Truck if you like to see the difference..The HHR I didnt get the print out.

heres the dyno from the Chariot:
From Dyno 1 to dyno 4 theres 14.88 H/P gain just by opening the E-cut-out and the the other run was removing the air filter 2.5 H/P more there's my proof...but this was on the ladies chariot her 1/2 truck I saw an actual 7 h/p on the SS, It should be up to each individual on what they want on their vehicle.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am glad to hear both sides. We'll see what I decide, I am not completely limited to a cut-out, the CGS full exhaust is only $300 + installation whereas the cutout is $200 + installation. Not a huge difference. Problem is, if the CGS will not give me a good deep loud muscular sound, and only provide minimal gains over the cut-out, I only really plan to use the cut-out at the track and whatnot, maybe just to play here and there, but not open all the time. That is where I feel it could be better, in that I could be silent with the OEM exhaust when I want, and loud as hell when I want! We'll see, I haven't decided yet.

But yes, it will be a little better than stock exhaust for sure.
