has anyone put a cold air intake on?
Just wanted to know if anyone have put a cold air intake on? Was going to get the piping and do it myself it seems to be alot cheaper than spending 300.00 for k&n. Also will it cause problems with my mass flow sensor or the engine light come on. Kind of new to this

Do a search on here for it since there's several threads on the subject. The general consensus is that a drop in K&N filter is fine since the factory box is a fairly decent setup. Most CAI's on the market sit the filter on top of the valve cover and take in hot underhood air...

I haven't done one yet but have been doing some reading as I will probably go this route. Seems the thing to be careful about so you don't throw codes is the diameter of the tube where the MAF sensor is, that should stay the same size as stock. Most of the aftermarket bits and pieces are 3"... the stock tube is 2.5" so harder to just buy off the shelf at the local parts store. One option that looks promising is cutting the tube off the stock box and then adapting up to more common 3" for the rest of the intake. Someone had made one from 2.5" PVC used for irrigation systems and there was a recent post about Air Raid selling just the tube from their unit for around $60...... so there's options around the 3" problem.
As for design, the big problem for many of the available systems is they don't draw cold air if they are picking up under-hood air. So other than sounding cool and looking better don't show improvements...... The stock box does draw cool air and does work well. My problem with it is I can't see the motor...... Personal peeve.
Just my
As others have said, read around the forum, there's lots of info about this.

Yeah, it was funny changing the oil in my friend's Saturn L200 with the 2.2, because it looked so much different without that box on it!!!
I personally think the stock is probably the best for overall economy and performance. I think if you add anything you'll probably just get a better sound, but I doubt you'll gain much as has been said, most will just draw air from under the hood. The way it's set up from the factory is already a CAI. Personally, I think they sound cool. If I had the extra cash I'd probably get one.

I agree 100%, I've always been a fan of the "STEALTH" look. Let 'em wonder what the heck's under the hood as you pull away...
