straight out of the box, it was protruding, and I didn't like it I tried step one and got this.
The part of the system that has the mandrel S bends and sits just about under the rear seats correctly follows the contours of the underside of the body. Adjusting at the T-nut joint would mis-align that portion of the system and there isn't enough adjustment there to move the tip forward to the proper location anyway. Looking at the result you obtained in the pic, the two options you have described is not acceptable.

I think there are 3 other much better options. 1) Hahn's sends me the correct part. 2) Hahn's pays a local muffler shop of their choice to move the tip back to it's correct location. 3) I remove their system and do a chargeback on my credit card.

You bought a custom made part, granted they may have screwed up, but its not off the shelf stuff. My bet is... they have all the stuff written down.... like, go 1'6" then bend 90, go another 1' bend again. I don't think thay have a template laying around, and they damn sure don't have an SS to test fit to. Bummer, your having issues. I have had no issues with mine, no bumping, touching, nothing.

The pic is mis-leading. The tip doesn't stick out but maybe an inch further than the bumper.

When HAHN was originally starting to sell the HHR exhaust, it was a cobbled together Cobalt exhaust. you could tell because the hanger placement is not the same, and a few guys were getting pipes that had new hangers welded on, and the old ones ground over.

I am changing out my DP today. 2 years ago, I gutted the cats, happy but not real happy. I drag race alot, and noticed some cherry hot areas on certain parts of the cats, where flow was getting back-up. So a HAHN Cat-less is going on today. I'll post new pics tonight.

Hope you get your issue worked out, but unless its straight off the shelf, no two are gonna be exactly the same.

Alot of people will say a lot of crap about HAHN, but as far as myself. Every part I've bought from them(I have everything they make for the SS) has been pretty well built, and I have no issues. main complaints against them..... time it takes to fill an order, price, and popping IC welds.(I blow about 9lbs of CO2 a week on the IC, still good, no issues).

Again, hope this works out for you.

I agree with what you are saying about Hahn's. The exhaust system is all I have experience with, but it is well built. As it turns out, the tip protruding way out is how they've built their other HHR SS systems and there was not a mistake made. I wasn't sent a Cobalt piece. So it's a great system, just a difference of opinion on aesthetics. From a customer service point of view, they have done an excellent job. I've talked to Bill Hahn twice on the phone and they are going to send a muffler section with a shorter tip protrusion. Based on my experience, I will be considering them for other upgrades in the future.

Good to hear. My exhaust tip sticks out about 1 1/2" from the rear fascia since day 1 (look in my gallery) and I have the 1st gen Hahn exhaust. The way I see it, with our DI motors that kind of helps in keeping the rear bumper clean of the black soot we get with the stock tips.

I love the dual magnaflows I had custom installed, by Sport Muffler in Santa Moncia (on Lincoln).

Less price that most single magnaflows and they did a perfect job and did it in two hours.

The sound is deep and throaty, not raspy. Sound more like a strong 6 than a 4.

IMO

There is a lot of woulda, coulda, shoulda about the HHR SS.

I love it, drives better than any car I own and I guess given GM's finances at the time, we should be happy they made it at all.

Yes, I wish they had come out with duals at the start, though there is no real performance advantage, or the horsepower upgrade (which shows real improvement), but the HHR SS does leave room for some personalization.

I guess we need to realize what the Chevy SS is traditionally all about. Unlike BMW's M series, or Audi's R, Cadillac's V, the SS has always stood for minimal changes at minimal cost.

Our cars won't beat an M 3 series around the Ring but then again the cost of our cars is about the first year depreciation on any BMW.

It's funny, I have three SS's. A 2008 impala SS a 2008 trailblazer SS and the HHR. Out of all three, the Impala is the most old world with a limited body and a too much horsepower for it's platform. The trailblazer the second most old world with tons of power, tons of weight and a frame on body structure. The most modern and best driving of the three is the HHR. It is also the most confident feeling car at speed of the three and unlike the Impala and the Trailblazer I can actually pass a petrol station without filling up.

In fact the only thing my three SS's have in common is they are not made anymore and probably no SS will be made again.

Now, given crowd appeal, parked the HHR gets more attention but once started the Impala SS stops people with magnaflows and a v-8 and it feels and sounds much faster than it is.

But the Impala is another woulda coulda shoulda, though I like it, just as with all the other SS's you have to accept them for what they are.

IMO

Got the final product back today and I'm pretty pleased with the result. 3" removed. The sound is great as well.

That does look good. My pipe sits out further than yours, but it's hanging low. I need to take it somewhere for them to bend it up or something. The guy who installed mine bent it up, but it's still not enough.
