Stage 1 kit availability

Ordered the Stage 1 kit from my dealer a week ago Friday. Called today and they said parts aren't available, no ETA. I was really hoping to get this before I leave on vacation Thursday.

Is the GM Parts system really so lame that they can't give an estimated ship date on backorders, or is the dealer hosing me?

It is not that it is so lame but the fact they just came out of Chapter 11 and there is still a lot of things going on.

It should all sort out soon.

True, but others seemed to be getting the kits even while the bankruptcy was going on. What has been the typical waiting time for others that ordered the kit?

I was wondering when this would happen. From what I understand the GM performance division is no longer. So performance parts coming from that particular unit of GM have a very low priority. I wouldn't doubt that the Stage I upgrade could become an unavailable part number when the supply runs out, if not obsolete. It is a high profit margin part for GM, but how many more are they really going to sell.

Yep, I would maybe question who your ordering through. Some dealers seem to have the proper channels to get things, when others are a guessing game if you will get your stuff. I went with crate engine depot and also received mine very quickly when I ordered.

FACT ONE. The GM Performance Division still is around and will remain around. Only the production car staff at GMPD has been move and placed right in the development programs of the cars GM is builting. This means all the GM cars will be tuned right from the start by the same people that did the SS. GMPD will focus on show cars and race cars.

FACT TWO The GM performance parts division oversees the sales of the stage kit and they are not going anywhere either and are not the same division as GMPD.

The Stage kit should be around for a long time unless somthing happens to GM or the laws change that may prevent kits like this.

The folks from the GMPD that did the SS are now working on the Volt to make it handle like a sports sedan and from what has been reported it is working. It's handling is far removed from the Prius and other Hybrid electrics.

I am waiting to see what they will do on some of the other cars out there GM is working on. Just imagine the cars in the future being built from the start with the good stuff vs taking a car already in production and making it better. That is what they are now doing at GM. This will be a good move.

I ordered my kit 7-15-09 and it came in 7-17-09 installed on 7-20-09 all through F.H.Dailey Chev. San Leandro,CA. The deal being not all dealers are set up in the performance loop. It pays to be sure you do business with the guys in the know.

That kind of confirms my suspicion. The dealer I'm working with is the only GM Performance dealer in the Pacific Northwest. Seems like maybe the guys in the know aren't?

It doesn't matter if the dealer is a "Performance Dealer" or not the kit is ordered the same way and shipped from the same place. The OP's dealer is either lying to him or they are dunderheads if the other dealers are getting them without delays.
