2006 2.2 brain storming..HP Tuners and turbo

Ok, so I have a 2006 HHR with a 2.2. The 2.2 is from a 2004 Saturn.
Bought the car with a blown motor and the local yard had this engine.
I here the 2006 forward, the 2.2 became weaker and weaker.
I also heard only trifecta can tune the 2006 PCM? what the frack....
So, my thought is to either get a turbo kit from ZZP or the S/C kit, new rods and pistons.
For tuning, has anyone used HPTuners for the 2006?

Thoughts, comment and/or suggestions welcome.

First of all, where in OH!? I'm near Cleveland. Secondly, if you're going for "cheap" performance I'd steer from kits and source the parts yourself. If you're not interested in cheap I'd scrap that 2.2 block and start with a solid foundation. You can put in all the forged goodies and forced induction you want but your HP will be capped by the strength of your block.

Can't really speak on the 2.2s but I know the Gen2 2.0L is prone to failure over 385 HP. That being said 385 is more than enough to have a good time in an HHR!

Good luck and keep us posted.

Just got done installing a m-62 supercharger on my 2008 2.2 . I sourced all my parts from ebay, wrecking yards, Rock auto, and some parts houses. Total cost was $1500 not counting my time and gas. It made a big difference in the car. My block is a gen 2 not the best but it works so far. I have driven it with the supercharger on for 4k, no leaks or problems.
Total miles on the car is 215k miles. Good little engine

Nice! I just recently finished (yeah right) the wife's 08SS. Gen3 crate + 256ET. Spared no expense on building the wife's ride. Now I need to do a rebuild on the Gen 2 and find a donor vehicle on the cheap!

Thanks for the replies! I'm looking to stay under 300 HP for now, mostly just around 210ish. I'm rebuilding my 3800 v6 in my 89 Z24 as well and want to get it done before doing anything more on the HHR. It just needs to be woke up a little :)

I also verified that HPTuners doesn't support any 2.2 from GM in year 2006 it seems.
So, what is the difference in year 2006 on the 2.2 that is a problem for tuning?

Welcome to the site blackhhr.

Im sure RF2 will help build you a basic list. But you're gonna need a lot of research if you've never done this type of mod. There are a couple here that have done the supercharger mod. There's a ton more kids doing this to cobalts. There's a ton of research that's been done for you, it would be beneficial for you to check over at the cobalt SS forum. Lots of info there, you just have to read through a lot. I'm shooting for a turbo mod on the 2.2, one thing I'm sure of..we're gonna need more fuel!

for the best on line info search for " The ultimate M62 Guide " on the web. It has the parts list, pics and good ideas for you. Just remember it is a guide, but you can do what you are trying with this info.
Good luck.
