Question Battery Charging

Do I need to remove the battery in order to charge it or can I connect the battery charger from under the hood using the positive & negative connection points by the fuse box?

Fred.

Should be able to use the terminals under the hood.

I would charge the battery in the car (with the hatch open) but I would suggest disconnecting the battery terminals, just in case. Also be sure to charge it with the correct amps and for the proper amount of time to avoid any overflowing of acid from being over charged. If it is a maintance free battery dont add water to it, most people over fill the battey and cause it to leak during regular(proper) charging and then try to say the battery is junk. Sorry I work in auto retail and hear these stories too often. Just a tip, the acid in the battery should just cover the lead plates, it doesnt need to fill the whole cell.

I have heard of problems where fuses blow when boosting the HHR from those connection points (it even happened to me once) so I always charge mine (and boost when needed) from the battery itself. I am having problems with my battery, so I left the bottom sill off making access to the battery very easy. I dont even have to hinge open the cover.

I bought a nice charger from Sears that does 2 Amp trickle, regular charge (I believe about 20 amp) plus it you can start the car off the charger. Plus, I picked up a batter booster pack for 29 bucks on sale that I carry in the car for emergencies. Plus I have helped out neighbors several times with it. Much easier than using booster cables

i've never had good luck with booster boxes, but then again i've only used them on larger can and large work vans that were completely dead.
