Synthetic oil
#31
When I say change tyhe filters, don't wait 5000 miles, keep changing the filterslike every secong fill-up, you will clean out your synthetic oil. Buy a cheapo case of filters for this procedure, and when it is cleaned out, THEN put on your good filter.

Sorry, my suggestion was for an earlier post that complained their synthetic oil looked dirty with low mileage. You can clean out the synthetic oil, and get looking clean again by repeatedly changing the filters.
If your oil looks clean, you're doing well, and should only change your filters as normally scheduled.

I changed to Mobil 1 5w30 at 6588 miles.
Reading the book says as long as the oil meets 3 requirements.
1.5w30
2.starburst symbol
3.meets GM something like 2940 or3920 standards.
Every dealer I ask "what exactly are the gm2940(or3920 whatever it is,I don't have my book here) requirements?
tell me "just get a name brand oil"
They won't tell me details of what exactly gm 2940 requirements are, even though the book says you need them.
They don't listen to my question and answer it.
They (3 people) say to just get Pennzoil, or Quaker State...etc. SO I still don't now what GM 2940 requorements are ...
I changed to Mobil1 5w30 at 6588 and my next tank of gas went up 2 mph immediately.
The thing that throws me off in the book is the MAINTENANCE I and MAINTENANCE II schedule.
It is odd to me that you change the oil when the car says to.
NOT every 3000 or 6000 miles.
It is 1/year minimum or when the car says to.
And when the car says to change the oil,the book says to do it within 600 miles of that warning.
I have a hard time getting used to a car telling me when to change the oil. But I guess I have to get used to it!!!
