Gallons remaining when low fuel indicator on

Does anybody know how many gallons you have remaining when the low fuel indicator turns on? I've looked in the manual but it doesn't say. All it says is to refuel as soon as possible.

In my 07 LT, about 2 gallons remain when the indicator first turns on.

I'm not sure how many gallons are left, but my LOW FUEL message usually appears with 45-50 miles left (according to the calculated fuel range). When I fill up the tank, it seems that there was 1.5 to 2 gallons remaining, if I fill up when the message first appears.

Personally, I would like to be able to view the fuel range all the way to zero--instead of seeing FUEL RANGE LOW...... annoying.

BTW... For now, I drive a 2LT (2.4L engine), with the automatic trans.

I am picking up my new SS in two days.

With the fluctuation in miles remaing, it's probably GM's way of protecting themselves from any/all liabilty from those that will run out of gas saying....... "but my DIC said I had another mile left in my tank".

I've always refueled the FI cars at 1/8 tank since the pumps in the tank and the fuel itself cools the pump.

Senior is dead-on.
Since the fuel pump is submerged in the tank, it uses/relies on the fuel to keep it cool.

Unless it is an absolute emergency(or you're flat broke), you should never push the fuel supply limits passed 2 gallons.

Not to mention that our ONLY fuel filter is in the tank, there can be a greater chance of debris clogging the filter when you run low on fuel.

you may have the answer to your question, but hopefully this info saves you from asking another question: "how much to replace a fuel pump?"

damn this scared me one time on my way to el paso texas...

i wa son I-10 and the first warning came on...no prob i said some little town has a gas station... no they were closed...

next one came on fuel range low or whatever...
no stations again...

i actually went past the red line on the fuel and came up to a filling station in the middle of no where near van horn, texas.

i think i went about way over what i was supposed to

but its an ugly feeling when ur in the middle of nowhere , no cell service, and running out of gas
