Bottom line. New header > stock. New header = more power.

The JBA headers on my 05 Mustang GT with out the SC produced very little but combined with the Blower they helped smooth out the whole system! Headers alone on a 4 banger????? An HHR with a SC and headers and now Im inerested

Mike, in thread #5175, which was deleted, you had 2 posts. In this one, #5182, you have only one post to this point.

Ths proves nothing. You can drop mpg by simply idling your car in the driveway. MPG will also depend on how much you put your foot into it.

The only way to prove your claim is to put both intakes on the car, dyno it and show the numbers.

Been there...done that. I know what works.

I am in no way claiming to be "the expert" on HHR's, but once you have tried as many things as we have, you will start to see the light. And CH; there is a lot going on with the VVT that you don't understand. It reacts to "wrong" mods by retarding the cams. Tell me you can make more power running around like that!?!

Finally, this "header" HVRod installed is nothing more than an extrude honed stock manifold. It is not a true header system (equal length pipes tuned to a specific rpm), it's basically a stocker. I wouldn't expect to get even 1 a hp gain from that on a 4-banger.

But I'm sure they will sell out of them next week!

Actually I purchased the Extrude honed mani from HVRod... the header he has from CA (cobalt addiction) is actually a REAL header. They have plenty of pics on their site. The pics on his how-to are of the original mani and the tubular header. CA has done some really great things with Cobalt mods and knowing they fit the HHR without much modding makes performace gains for the 2.4 and 2.2 easier! Tuning his 2.4 with whatever tune would help with the gains by stopping the retard of the cam. Seems these 2.4's are more like the DSM where tuning is everything and not just "bolting on power". Anyone can check out Cobalt addiction's parts on their site too! www.cobalt-addiction.com Their Coby is also awesome!

OK, I stand corrected about HVRod's header. Let's see some numbers.

If someone will just post some actual before/after dyno or 1/4-mile times, we can see what, if any, gains are actually there on an HHR.

"Tuning his 2.4 with whatever tune would help with the gains by stopping the retard of the cam."

I'm sorry, but it's not that simple. The cams will retard anyway - or the engine won't run. It's part of the anti-knock protection. Believe me, we have done a lot of studying on the subject:

The VVT and ECU are very picky on this engine and we are just beginning to discover new things that will actually work. The "Ecotec" that has been around "forever" is the 2.2L - that is the engine builders are getting 1000hp out of - not the new 2.4L.

Additionally, HVRod's "tune" has still not ever been disclosed - only "commented on." It would be interesting to contact the manufacturer and see exactly what they are offering, what parameters can be changed, and how it affects the engine.

I'm listening...

just a simple question hvrod...
arent' headers illegal in Cali?
I know, even messing with your exhaust is illegal in CA but at least I can pass a smog control test and I've never been cited ever...going back to 1998 with my Borla catback on my Z28. can you pass a smog check with headers on an HHR? I'm very interested in this topic BTW.
