We just hit the 3000 km on ours. We had the oil changed a couple of days ago. No questions asked. Now, our dealer did recommend waiting until the computer told us to change the oil, but we didn't want to wait. We are taking a long drive next week and wanted it tended to. Isn't it strange all the different advice GM dealers seem to be giving on this engine?

Personally, I changed out the factory fill (and filter) in Cobbs @ 1000 miles.

See that is just a waste. So you trusted the owners manual? I could not see anywhere that is says to change oil at such an utterly ridiculously low mileage.

Thank you for that....

I was looking through the Owners Manual for that very statement, I guess while you posted. I thought I knew the Owners Manual pretty well, but maybe missed something. I never saw where it said anything about changing at 250 miles.

Basically it says what I stated in Post #2.

I changed my first fill out the old school way (3000 mi/5000 km).

Didn't want to take it out to what the DIC would say while it was still being "broken in" plus the car was 8 months old when I got it.

When you say to wait till the car says to change it due you change it at 70% or below 10%? (never bothered to read manual) i'm at 36000 miles and i think i've only changed it 3 or 4 times cause i've been waiting till it got low. 70% tends to be around 3-4k miles i've noticed though. I also get a lot worse gas mileage after i change for the first few 1k miles.

Your HHR will tell you to change your oil when you hit 5%.

that's what i was thinking, but everyone keeps telling me i'm crazy for letting it go around 9k miles. if i switch to synthetic keep it around the normal 3k or would that make a differance?

I use synthetic and follow what the DIC says in both our HHRs.

Hell yeah synthetic will make a difference but I personally have came to trust my DIC even using dino. Most of us have just came to say do whatever makes you feel comfortable with. Some people have a hard time trusting new technology and breaking the 3000 mile rule. I know I did at first.
