I just can't get over that someone would want to drive around with oil only 25% as good as it was when it was new. If it was synthetic and the filter was changed every 3000 I would understand. As to the post of engine losing power and not running right, too late!

Like I've said before, you just gotta get the 3,000 out of your head. This is a system that's been proven over 20 years and millions of dollars and miles in development and testing.

On my last OCI, I ran just over 8,100 miles on synthetic oil and only changed the oil filter when I put in the new oil.
The only reason I changed the oil was because I am doing 6 month OCI cycles with syntehtic oil and didn't want to be changing oil in the freezing cold.
When I get my UOA report back from Blackstone, I'll post it to show how the oil held up.

8151 miles, did not change the oil filter during that entire run. Very good UOA report.

This is great info. Thank you.
I got rid of a 1998 BMW 3 series for my HHR and BMW has been using the computer to calculate iol changes for quite a while. Needless to say I am a believer in this.
I think people need to come to grips with this technology and get off of the 3,000 mile mark.

I may have to change my oil early I put only 1,700 miles on it this year now it is put away till May.Oil life is now at 87% don`t think I want it to be in my engine more than 2 years. It will take me 4-5 years waiting for it to get to 10,000.Don`t think that would be a good selling point on a 5 year old car.
Less than 10,000 miles everything factory including the OIL.

All my years driving and a family of mechanics I have never went more than 5000 on an oil change and i use MOBIL1 on my HHR,EVO,SOLARA,AND1970 CAMARO .. I thinks its good to get the old oil out and some new blood in any engine.Just my 2 cents

Everyone needs to realize that change isn't a bad thing. It goes back to the old saying that just because you've been doing something a certain way for a long period of time doesn't make it the right way.
I'm not trying to be a dink because everyone is entitled to there own opinion and there own way of doing things. Overchanging you're oil certainly isn't going to hurt anything. It just costs more money.
No harm no foul.
