What is being used to add fuel for boost? What did you use for tuning?

 

With HP Tuners you can customize the PCM parameters so your stock PCM still controls all the of functionality within its limits.

 

excellent pics of the cam install , and a bad ass supercharger setup too. let me know how the neutral balance shaft install goes, i'm plannin on adding cams and balance shafts whenever i get some spare cash, or time.

 

I thought HPTuners couldn't read 06 PCMs....

HPTuners supported vehicle list:

06-10 2.4l HHR are writable

Currently the 2.2l are not writable, but I thought I read somewhere they were working on it. Not 100%

 

Oh. Never mind. They did get support to the 2.2l Cobalt 07+ model years, but not the HHR. If somebody put in a request they may consider working on it since the PCM is the same. The 05-06 2.2l would not be doable though.

 

For the 2.2 HHRs, '06 - '07 had the E16a ECM which HPTuners has chosen not to support.

The '06 and '07 2.4 used the E67 ECM which is supported.

From '08 and up both the 2.2 and 2.4 share the same E37 ECM which is supported. Error on HPTuners list.

Hope this clears this up and doesn't confuse anyone.

 

Also, for some of you "newer" people here.... (hhrfreek, you said you didn't see any S/C threads!)

To my knowledge, the first to S/C an HHR was a member named Quasimotor, back in late '07. I helped him with tuning issues and became a friend. Unfortunately, he (Jim Davis) took his life at the end of '09. He was a cool guy!

I did mine three years ago. No issues and still running strong.

As for tuning, I bought HPTuners as my Christmas present in '06. Had to do some work with the developer and finally was successful in Jan. '07, the first HHR tuned with HPT!

hhrfreek.... some info for you.... I saw where you mentioned the program available to tune the virtual VE tables. ktoonsez, the developer, early on told me that it would not work with our VVT, since the computational formulas go from a 5 to a 7 dimensional polynomial equation for the computations.

When I first tuned mine, I saw some strange behavior when going into boost and decided to go with pure MAF for airflow calculations (this was before that program was even available.) Absolutely no issues!

Recently I looked into the MAP zones in our tune and got an idea, which I haven't had the time to look into. Go to the HPT forum repository and grab a Corvette ZR1 file. It uses the same E67 ECM. Look at the zone mapping. I see a 'hint" there!

 

Joe. I know you had a SC HHR way back. I'm not the first or the last person that will do this. Your posts came up periodically when I was thinking about SCing the HHR. I still haven't come across a solid informational thread on this on this forum, but rather a bunch of talk about "thinking about it" or you saying you've "been there done that". And that's fine I am only trying to contribute to a cool project and I am happy to see the interest it has sparked again. I just didn't come across any project threads like this one. I also sent you a pm back in fall of '10 asking for some tuning help with my HHR because you did it already, but I never got a response. I think I have a pretty good grasp on the tuning aspect of this though and likely in the same manner you learned it. Trial and error and the help from others. And that's how I came across the EQ program. I tried it this spring and ended up wasting a crap load of time and banged my head trying to understand the inconsistencies I was getting from it. That little bit of info would have been great to know. Turns out the first time I used it I loaded the same tune that was on my car with back on with other minor adjustments I was working on. Thats why I thought it was working. Yeah silly mistake, but oh well. I am also running a MAF tune, but only after 3200rpms. I have a bunch of free time Sunday so I am going to give the full MAF tune a try. With the tune I got from ZZP the SD tables were already altered so I left them and just continued tuning other aspects within the PCM. I'm going to check out the ZR1 file in a bit. Thanks, Jason.
