Service Interval

Ok, so just picked up th 1LT with 2.4L tonight. One of the reasons I picked the HHR was because I do a lot of driving. Of course the dealer says 5000KM (3000Miles) for Oil changes, but the manual says change oil within 1000KM of the oil warning. At roughly what milage is your warning showing up at? What are you guys doing for a service Interval and how has it been working out for you so far? Most of my driving is Highway.

Unhappy

I guess I am a little different. I do not trust the DIC, I get mine changed every 3,000 miles...4,000 at most. And my father works for a GM dealer, and everyone there recommends the same. I am confused by this topic as it seems a lot of people go upwards of 10,000 miles.

You dad works for a dealer that sells GM products, they are not a GM dealer. They make more money the more often people change their oil. GM doesn't make anything on it. That's why I'll always trust GM over the word of ANY dealer.

For the very first oil change, I did mine at 350 miles. I'm currently have about 4100 miles and waiting for my DIC to say 5%. I'll then switch to mobil 1 synthetic.

My last oil change had about 6400 on that oil and at 15%. As you can see, the OLM is doing what it is supposed to do. It shows that the oil change is going to show up as your car needs it. Not a preset mileage.

Why not ask the dealer why they know more than the engineers the designed the car. Ask that service writer to see his ASC credentials.

Kris, a few weeks ago I changed the oil myself.

The OLM was at 16% and I had put 13,118 kms on it over 6 months in suburban & highway driving conditions with synthetic oil.

Waiting for my UAO results on that run of oil to see how it went.

When using dino oil, I didn't go beyond 9,000 kms - mileage was starting to drop off and the engine didn't "feel" right.
