Antenna broke

When I washed my car yesterday, the plastic around the stock antenna shattered. Between you and me, I may have overtightened my shorty replacement. But I did it by hand and used locktite so I did not think I used too much force since it was not necessary.

I will bring it back to the dealer to see if it will be covered by warranty. Does anybody know if it comes off easy, or does the headliner have to come down? I am trying to get an idea of how long and involved the job will be.

As best I can tell, the headliner will have to be pulled down in order for you to access the bolt/nut. I pulled out the sunroof/light/microphone plate on mine but there is a plastic box underneath that houses the wiring for those components. You can't even see the antenna hardware with that box still in place. You may want to check it out anyway, I didn't look to see if that box would come out thru the opening, allowing you to get to the antenna hardware without having to pull the headliner.

BTW, I can't see you overtightening the shorty by hand and breaking the antenna base. I used a pair of plyers and mine hasn't shattered yet.

Can you change back to the factory antenna before you take it back to the dealer? Then they would know that you touched it?

The antenna completely fell out. I removed the stud for the shorty and will give them the original and not mention my mod.

I agree that it was probably defective. I was just brushing the top of it with a sponge when it all came apart. Either that or my brute strength is greater than your plyers

Just got back from my dealer-he ordered a new base and antenna. Said it was probably brittle from our snowstorm. Big job-the headliner has to come down.

I wish that would happen to me. I'm wanting to paint the base, but I dont feel like doing all the work.
