ATTN: You guys that are putting on aftermarket rims
Have you guys done any upgrades?
I was talking to someone about doing 19" rims, and he mentioned I should look into draining the tranny fluid and putting in a high performance fluid, putting in stainless steel braided break lines, and new brake pads, also mentioned new shocks/struts.
Just wondering if anyone has done anything along those lines while upgrading their wheels?

On a heavier car or full-sized SUV, those mods are necessary (along with oversized brakes), but the HHR only weighs 3100lbs. Jumping up to 19" wheels isn't going to destroy the tranny. Many aftermarket wheels are actually lighter than the stock HHR wheels are.
If you lower your HHR, the springs will be stiffer than stock, which is advantageous for your stock struts. Still, upgrading to better aftermarket struts will improve your ride.
I'm currently running 16's, but when I finally decide on the right wheels, those things mentioned above probably won't be on my to-do list.
Just a note - the HHR tranny is sealed and it's fluid has a 100,000 mile lifespan (I'd call that "heavy duty" fluid anyday. )
