Cam Cover

I've been thinking about it and I decided that I want to paint the camshaft cover. I want it to match the body color (sunburst orange), so I'll probably have to paint it unless there is a powdercoat color available that is very close to the orange. If there is a close powdercoat color in orange, I might actually try the home powdercoating kits that are available. That would depend on whether the cam cover fits in our kitchen oven. Also depends on what wife says about using her oven for powdercoating!

The cam cover will require some sanding and buffing on my part before it's painted, so I'll have to buy a replacement cover from GM to avoid taking the HHR out of service for a week or so. Our local dealers charge $130.35 for a cam cover, but GMPD has it for $77.27 (plus shipping).

After I paint the replacement cover and install it on the HHR, I'll be left with a cam cover that I don't need. Maybe someone else will buy it and do the paint & swap thing.

If you use your oven in your kitchen be prepared to buy your wife a new oven. From what I have read it put an odor in it you can't get out. Plus I worked for a company with a powder coat line and you could smell it when they were running it. Look around for someone remodeling and giving an oven away & use it for powder coat baking.

Here's mine (wrinkle finish powder coat, belt sanded ecotec logo) :

We plan on offering these for sale sometime after SEMA, for both 2.2L & 2.4L engines, however we only have plans to offer black or red. I will have to check with our powder coat guy to see if they can do orange in the wrinkle finish.

Thanks for checking, Mike.

If you could do it in Orange (that reasonably matches Sunburst Orange) then I might just buy it from you instead. I won't be doing this project for a few months so there is no hurry.

I just bought a 2.2 cover off E Bay and will have it coated and then I will put in on mine and will have an extra cover that I will then sell. I will post pictures when I have it back. So if you have 2.2 and would like my old cover please E mail me.

Unfortunately, I have a 2.4L so your cover won't work for me. Thanks for the offer anyways! I'm sure there's someone here who could use it, though.

I have been looking at the pictures of the 2.4 value cover. This is just my thoughts I belive the 2.2 and 2.4 cover are the same. Just differt in the way the coil packs go on. I have not seen a 2.4 so this is just what I see.
