Thanks for the idea Dave.
Nice touch! I like the way it looks without the vertical bars showing.
It’s also an inexpensive mod that anyone can do.

I sanded the bar that the bowtie is on and all the little bars in between.
used a paint premoter primer and then GM black paint. then I clear coated after installing my pinstripes.

Ok, thanks for that info.

I didn't wish to post anything about my attempts until I developed a method that had an acceptable appearance for what I was attempting. Maybe some suggestions from forum members would help....

Here is what I am attempting.......

I wish to "Black Chrome" all the shiney chrome on Snoopy.

I have tried 2 products....a spray window tint (sucks, it's made to run from top to bottom) and VHT's Nite Shades for tinting plastic lens.

I tried several different application methods without satisfactory results (scratches easy and the spray spots). Today, I will apply a plastic wheel coat first, let it dry then apply the tint, and if I have an acceptable appearance, maybe a clear coat for added protection. VHT is made for plastic and, as such, the longevity and scratch resistance is questionable on the chrome. That is why I'm using the plastic wheel coating first.

I have already sanded and painted the "connecting bars" flat black. And that appears to be acceptable.

Any suggestions....????????

Is there such a thing as translucent black paint? The stuff that was used on Mike's bowtie in another thread was translucent green. Just a thought.

nfboy....

I looked for it everywhere. Didn't find anything. Even went to a Automotive paint store that caters to the trade. Nope. Asked about custom mixing. They wanted a fortune for 1/2 pt. And the final cost was nebulous....would be based on my satisfaction level and the time for them to experiment....in the area of $500-600.

Yeah right. Although, they would guarentee satisfaction....next to last resort.
