A good quality car cleaner will remove bugs and tar without much effort. Also, WD40 will not hurt anything. Read up on what's in it and you'll feel better about using it.

WD-40 is great stuff. Bon Ami is a powdered cleanser (much like Dutch Cleanser or Bar Keepers Friend), that is in a gold and red can - and has a little quote that says "Hasn't scratched yet."

There are many chemicals on the market - and some work well. The ambulance company I work for buys a product called "Bug-Off" from a local detail supplier. I have heard that it makes plastic brittle however - and the numerous stress cracks in the headlight and turn signal lens do seem to verify this. I have tried the product on my own car and been unimpressed.

I think if you can find a way not to use chemicals it is a good thing - and I have heard that bug spray and WD-40 removes wax...

if you can get to them while they are still fresh a good detailer work good . we have not seen any bug here for a couple of mouths here just salt and ice . rather have the bugs .

As much as I love Rain X, it and bugs don't get along, or do get along, because it takes forever to get them off a windshield coated with the stuff.
