Well here's an attempt at what could be done with the lower grille for the new SS... open it up and make it look mean.
Actually remove the part of the lower front bumper that is black right now.
That opening could get a billet grille, a mesh grille, or horizontal black bar, you could do a lot down in that area. My chrome grille is just a modified stock one. They could do a lot with the grille too.

Actually they made vehicles that looked like the convertible HHR for years. They were called phaetons. Look up a picture of one from the 20's and 30's.
