Flames are the first thing I was thinking about doing. How does the vinyl hold up? Are they hard to DIY? Found a few web sites offering some flame kits, but nothing that's rocking my world. Want to do grey and blue combo on my black 2LT. Suggestions?

Generally speaking auto vinyl holds up for three to seven years depending on a few factors like brand, thickness, if it's reflective, and how well you take care of it. It's not that hard to do it yourself if your patient and have a good eye for making things even. I would start with something small if you have never done it before rather than jumping into something huge like flames or racing stripes. But the one thing you have to think about is sun fade. The paint under the vinyl doesn't get sun like the rest of your vehicle so while your paint fades at a normal rate the area under the vinyl is slowed. When you remove the vinyl after it being on for a couple of years you can still see where the vinyl was because it is darker than the rest of the car. At that stage the only way I know to correct the sun fade is a new paint job. That's exactly why I took my flames off. Temporarily looking cool for a couple of years isn't worth the cost of a new paint job.

Yeah, but then wouldn't you have real "GHOST FLAMES?"

I'm not too worried about it. My Nissan had a bunch of pistripes on it when I bought it, they were on there a long time.

I removed the pinstripes and had the paint polished and you couldn't tell.

My truck had a dual silver pinstripe near the top, a large ORANGE pinstripe and multiple silver ones below that on the rocker panels. They were on ther for so long they were literally disintigrating. UGLY.

Anyway, worst case is I do something custom to my car. I think I will try the vinyl at least to see if I want to follow through with painting some flames on.

THANKS, CH!!!!
