Disappointed in Blue Dots

I installed some blue dots in my '09 tonight. What a disappointment. I used the plastic, Mr. Gasket dots I bought from Summit Racing. Installation was simple, but there is no glow. Perhaps I should have used glass. I had a pair in a 1951 Ford that I had and they glowed purple. It was amazing. From a distance, the dot itself looks like I have something on my lens. Only when you are right on top of them does it look blue, but there is no glow, zero. So now, it look like I'll be in the market for a new set of tail lights!

You might try replacing the plastic blue dots with glass, I have glass blue dots on my motorcycle and they work great. Hopefully the glass are the same size as plastic so you can use the same lens. Let me know if you try the glass, I am thinking of putting blue dots on my HHR.

I know a couple people with them on their HHR and they had the same complaint. Best we could come up with was how far the bulb was from the dot.

It could be from the distance to the bulb filiment there is another issue possibly. Did you center the blue dot on the lense? If you did but the filiment is not centered behind the dot you will not get that purple glow. To test this you can look at the taillight from differant angles High, low, left, right and see if you get the glow from an angle. Straight on see if you are looking at the lit brake filiment through the blue dot. If you can look straight at the lense and see the filiment through the red and not the blue you have found your problem.

HHR lenses are tough to do since they are oval and angled. They still look good, just don't get the glow.

Yeah, you're just not gonna get the effect with our lenses!

your best bet is to go onto ebay and get the 24 led tail light bulbs they are extremely bright and will emit through the glass dot.
