Hate to ask a dumb question but, is the mesh just held in place at those two spots up on top, or is it also connected to something at the bottom ??

Not at the bottom. I'd rather it be held at the bottom but there is no obvious way to do it, and Mr. Bumpstops didn't, unless he added something since the original post. I'm thinking of ways to do it but haven't settled on one yet. Hello Mr. Bumpstops...

The bottom of the mesh is held tightly in place by tension - no lower fasteners needed.

I guess it would still stop a rock from doing some major damage even if just held in place at the top. Beats having nothing there !!

There is so much pressure on the mesh, even a large rock would barely move it.

You might try 3M's adhesive pads , and anchor using ty wraps..

Yea that or I got another idea.

As far as the stiffness, it ain't THAT stiff at the bottom! At least not using the material I got. Mr. Bumpstops used a satelite mesh which may have been stiffer, but what I got is aluminum gutter mesh, and it needs some stiffening at the bottom. That's my opinion anyway, for the material I used.
