Would it be possible to relpace the tube connecting the valve covers to the throttle body elbow with a seperate air filter for the valve covers?

Only if you don't care about voiding your emmisions system. That vent is a part of an EPA mandated exhaust gas recycle system. Putting a breather there will only serve to vent crankcase fumes to the atmosphere. It will also dirty up your engine compartment in a hurry, as the oil fumes will settle all over your (formerly), shiny engine.

yep it came off and nope it wasnt too messy,fairly easy job

Did the valve cover have an integral O-ring type or molded gasket that was reusable? Or did you have to buy a new gasket for reinstallation?
