Factory Fog Lights without factory setup

I would like to put factory fog lights on my HHR, but I don't want to have to mess with the BCM, and I really don't care whether or not if it has the factory setup. I was hoping to wire them so that the fog lights automatically go on whenever the low-beam headlights are on? How would you go about doing this? Would you do a quick splice type of setup? Also, do you need to purchase some kind of bracket/mounting type of thing to put down on the bumper where the fog light plugs currently are? Or do the fog lights just pop in without anything extra? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The factory fogs just replace the plugs. They snap right in. AS far as having them come on with the low beams, not sure how that would work. I just made my own wiring harness and use a switch that is tied into an ignition on fuse. That way they will automatically turn off when the ignition and doors are opened.

Just locate a constant 12v+ source that is hefty enough to run the two lights (fused) and connect that to pin 30 of a Bosch-type relay. Then tap onto the low-beam wire at one of your headlights...which ever one is closest to your relay... and run a length of wire to pin 86 of the relay. Connect relay pin 85 to a ground. And finally connect relay pin 87 to the hot wire on both fog lights. (don't forget to connect the fog light ground wires to ground). So, when you trigger your lowbeams, it will trip the relay and feed the 12v+ thru to your fogs. When you turn on hi-beams, it will turn off the fogs.

Or, if you want fogs all the time, connect pin 86 to your park light instead of the lowbeam. Any time your parks are on...so are the fogs. Hope that helps.

OK, thanks for your help solman. So if I buy the factory fogs online somewhere, I'd still need a wiring harness using your setup? What exactly do you mean by that? What does that do/What does it consist of? I saw your how-to, and it looks very helpful. I think I can figure it out especially with your how-to, but this isn't really my area of expertise, so I'm a little nervous doing this. I was debating on whether or not I wanted to do a switch, or if just wanted to have them on full time with the headlights. I guess the switch is the way to go, in case I ever sell the car (but I plan on keeping it forever). thanks again

Your setup with the parking lights sounds good, but the only problem is that the headlight/parking light/auto/off switch on my blinker stick is defective. I don't know why, but I can't ever get my HHR to just the parking lights on. It's either OFF, Auto(DRLs), or headlights. I know that's screwy, but I haven't bothered to fix it because it's really a minor problem, and it doesn't bother me that much. Thanks for your help though.

I started with these and later picked up a pair of the factory ones off EBay. I've never had a problem with them so far. And I use them every morning on my way to work. It is that easy to wire up.

Even if you are only using the "AUTO" feature, when that kicks in it will turn on park and headlights...thus turning on the fogs.

No offense, but I can't imagine installing those smaller fog lights into the plugs like that. It looks absolutely terrible, and should never be done to an HHR.

I bought my factory fog lights on eBay for $83 including shipping. They didn't just snap in easily, they were a pain to get in, but they look killer compared to having plugs.

Any suggestions on where to buy these factory fog lights? I see a ton on eBay, but a lot of them are completely round yet listed for a 2007 (like I have). I know my opening isn't completely round, the top is flat. So how would that make any sense? Where's a good place to buy them from?

I've got an '07 with factory fog lights.... they are round, there is a flat spot at the front of the opening but it is round further back where the lights are.
