Factory Fog Lights without factory setup
#11
Part of the round light is obscured by the bumper cutting across the top. The mounting portion of the fog light snaps in where the plugs come out. The hardest part is getting to them (through the wheel well). Once you get the light properly positioned, it will snap into place. It does take some force and it can be something of a pain, but with patience and some trial-and-error, they will snap in. I did not create a wire "harness." I ran lengths of red and black wire from the back of the lamps. I fed them up and through into the engine compartment. I used black wire ties to secure the wires to existing harnesses under the hood. I used shrink tubing at the rear of the lamps to secure the wires down and help keep them dry. The wire harness for the factory fog switch is already in the dash, so why not order the switch (I paid $12 plus shipping) so that the dash looks factory and there aren't any other "odd" switches drilled in. Pull the waterfall off, snap the plug out, snap the switch in and connect the harness. Snap the waterfall back into place. It took me all of 15 minutes to do this. The how-to on this site shows you exactly how to wire into the fuse block under the hood. The entire installation took me about 2 hours and looks completely factory. Flashing the BCM is not necessary as the fogs will work properly. Only thing the BCM flash will do is to engage the fog lamp indicator on the instrument cluster. I can live without that.

My BCM has not been flashed. My fog lights work exactly as you would expect (turn off when flipping to brights; turn back on when brights are turned off; turn on when button is pushed with only DRLs in Auto mode and DRLs turn off). The only thing I am missing is the green indicator icon on the dash.
Again, mine work and the BCM has not been flashed.

Well since this is a topic on Fog Lamps I have a question lol. I'm looking on ebay right now for some and really can't determine which ones are stock. Some that I'm looking at actually have a plastic ring with holes for tabs in them and look like they would fit the HHR but not sure.
Like these ones here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-20...Q5fAccessories
Also can you direct me to the instructional that you were talking about that allows you to wire up the fogs lights to go off with the highbeams and what not.
Talking about this part in your post

Here's the link to the HOW TO for installing the fogs. It includes clear instructions on where to attach to the relay in the fuse box under the hood. This guide is what I followed to install mine and had no problems whatsoever.

These are the OEM fogs that I bought. They look, fit and operate exactly like the fogs that would have come from the factory (thus the OEM -- original equiment manufacturer -- designation).

Remember, you will need to buy the connectors for the bulbs. I found mine at Advanced Auto Parts. You will also need to get the right size (small!) spade connectors to push on to the relay connectors in the fuse box. These are called for in the HOW TO, but I neglected to get them before I started, so had to run out and get some before I could finish.

I bought the switch from GM Parts People, online, for less than $15. It's listed, with part number, in the list of parts in the HOW TO. (F-switch). Remove the waterfall, push the blank plug out of the hole for the switch, push the switch into place until it snaps in and then connect the wiring harness already there, under the AC vents.
