50 views from owners who haven't bought or installed gmpartsdirect Assist step. I guess that is your answer.

No direct link to what you are looking at. I know there are Assist Steps for Pick UP Trucks but Assist steps for the HHR???? or are you talking about the running boards? I think others are as confused as I am.

I believe that "assist steps" is how the boards are sometimes referred to.

Assist steps and running boards are the same thing. On the GM website for accessories they are referred to as Assist Steps. If you search for running boards for the HHR and don't find enough options, search for Assist steps for the HHR. Sorry for any confusion. I was just wondering if they fit well. Thanks to all.

My 2LT came with the running boards, same ones you would buy and install on other trim packages, they fit well and look great.

My wife's 2006 1LT came with running boards but my 2010 1LT did not.

The dealer quoted me the following two weeks ago:

"The price I quoted you was for both the painted parts and instillation. The regular price is $685.00 (that price reflects the painting costs and shop/labor costs for installation). The $549.00 is our cost for everything".

From what I have seen, the cost from GM is $329?

I have seen other posts of people buying them from junkyards. Either way it looks like you need to figure on painting them. Again, different posts say they are not that difficult to install but I do not know for sure.
