Question Has anyone done a split windshield?

Like the '49 Suburban had. Or some kind of simulation. Pics?

Being that you would be creating an unnecessay blind spot, I would question it's legallity. Might be nice to have a snap-in fiberglass piece that can be popped in for shows (or removed for inspection)

What's funny is the guys with the early Chevies are trying to get rid of the split because they're such a pain......

Yeah, but those guys are kinda' normal. When I drive my SS I think that a company, an American company at that, conceived, designed, prototyped, manufactures and markets a car with 4 doors, retro styling, superior handling and a 150 mph top end, just goes to reassure me that there are other people in the world besides me who have serious mental issues.

You might be able to simulate it easily with a 1/2 inch chrome pinstripe. If it looks like crap just peel it off. One problem though, the windshield wipers. The wipers will pass over it but I suspect they would damage the stripe edges fairly quickly as well as the rubber blade itself.

I have a chrome outlined SS sticker made from chrome vinyl and carbon fiber vinyl (so double thickness) that is on the upper part of my windshield. Been raining lots here in central Illinois and after 4 months the vinyl still looks new and the wipers are still perfect. dont think it would be an issue, and it would be cheap to replace anyhow

I'd hate to even attempt that trick. Our HHRs have a much more curved windshield(side to side)that older vehicles do.Split windshields came about because of the lack of technology back then to make curved glass.Once the technology was developed, split windshields went the way of the rumbleseat and friction shocks.

Here's a photoshopped version I did to give you an idea. Try it with the chrome or brushed aluminum pinstripe and see.

OH BTW that is not my HHR. I took it from the Gallery. I just PS'd in the split. :-)

Ha! Cool. I never said I wanted to do such a silly thing, I just wondered if anyone had and what it looked like.
