If you guys have any detailing questions...

Feel free to ask..

I am a professional concours level detailer, and just bought by black HHR for my company, as I travel all around the state of Florida detailing exotic and high end cars.

Unfortunately, my HHR has a horrible case of DISO (dealer installed swirl option) from improper wash techniques from the dealer boys. The car also has a factory paint defect and will need the rear section repainted.

Here are some links off of autopia of my work.

I figured thats enough links to prove my worth, and when it comes time to detail the HHR I will do a full write up. Anyways, I'm looking forward to hanging around the board, as I would love to convert the HHR into a detailing hotrod so to speak, so it should be fun.

If you guys/gals ever have questions, feel free to ask! I plan on learning about my new ride from you guys/gals, so its only fair.

Have you ever tried the vinegar and newspaper trick...that works wonders. You can use very fine steel wool too...but you need to be very careful so as not to scratch the windows.

Nice cars you've done there TH...you need any help? My boyfriend has been detailing cars for 30+ years and needs a job.

for the water marks and etching on the windows try a product called Farecla I just found this stuff at a local paint store and it is awesome. I have a dark green dodge caravan that sat in the sprinklers for about a month and I couldn't get the spots off (i even tried brake cleaner and couldn't get them off) I figuered the paint was ruined any way why not try it. I used this with an orbital and POOF they were gone, brought it back to better than new in my opinion.

BTW TH0001 you do great work (as if youv'e never heard that before) but why no pics of your HHR not even in the backgrounds??? WE WANT PICS

Thanks. All cars get them, with darker colors it is (unfortunately) easier to see them. I plan on wetsanding and polishing my paint to perfection anyways, so I'm not too upset about it though.

Hef's Vette was orginally designed by the same person who designed and fabricated the batmobile. It was built in 1970 (though its a '68), and taste was different than today. It had a twin that toured the world in the early '70s for Goodyear. When Hef used to own it (1970-1985, I believe), it had playboy bunnies for taillights, lol.

Its a very cool, vintage piece, IMO, though the the looks where radical then, and more so today (which does say a lot, IMO).

The ink in newpaper acts as a fine polish to help remove stops. A 50/50 mix of vineger and distilled water should be your first choice, as it is the least abbrasive. It will neutralize and soften the minerals that form the spots you see. If that does work, you can try a number of things. I stay away from steel wool, because, as stated, if your not careful you can scratch the glass. This will lead to a crazy glare or haze in the bright sun.

If the vinegar doesn't work, try claying the window (just like claying the paint). If that still doesn't work, try a fine glass polish which will mechanicaly remove the staining with micro abrasives. I prefer Zaino Z12 glass polish with a terrycloth and a little elbow grease.

Thanks for the heads up on the Farecla.

As far as the pics, lol, I promise you will get them, I just bought the car yesterday, and I had to work all day. However, it has a factory defect in the paint, so they will have to repaint the rear passanger side panel. After I get it back, I will do a full write up on how to detail an HHR (with a TON of pictures) if you guys are interested?

Steel will scratch so try brass wool. Same stuff different material, I`ve used it to clean gunk off of old glass in cars that can`t be replaced easily. follow it up with a polish compund.

nice pics but you could use some tips to better pics.since your using a nikon i would say that you have a D-40,50, or 80 because of the very high saturation of greens and reds, you don't get that with a D-200 unless photoshoped. but a cp filter will cut down on the glare on the paint and glass.just my 2 cents you can tell me where to go if i'm wrong
