Smile New Seat Covers & Floor Mats

Getting really fed up with how easily the front seats of my HHR soil, so I went to K-Mart and found some seat covers for Smoke. They also had some very cool floor mats, so I got them too.

I'll had to do a few minor modifications to them to accomodate the armrests and the seat switch on the drivers side, but just throwing them on for an initial fit, it looked like they will work quite nicely. Not bad for $29.99 at K-Mart...found them online and they were $63.99.

Also found these cool floormats. I think the black will work better, as all the lighter color ones show every little speck of dirt and/or mud that gets in the car when it rains or snows. Think I might also check with the dealer and get the mudflaps that match these as well. Think they are $15.99 a set if I remember right. I like these because the gold bowtie on them matches the pinstripe I have, so when I get the mudflaps, it will all tie in nicely. The mats were $29.99 as well, which isn't too bad a deal...and I was there and just couldn't resist them.

OK folks...here's the deal. The seat covers fit "ok" for the price, but are a pain to get installed. The round hook thingies came out on the drivers side cover, but we managed to get them on and they are a reasonable fit.

On with the pictures...like I said, they fit ok for the price and will definitely be better than the dirty seat issue I have been fighting. Below them I have also posted a couple pictures of the floormats...which look great.

The center section that goes in between the top and bottom is really hard to use, and the drivers side one broke, so the fit is not so great here...but still acceptable till something better comes along.

Drivers seat...fits decent considering the weird configuration of the seat itself

I think they look very nice. They fit a lot better than the ones I bought for sure. The mats are a nice touch. One question, did the seat covers come with a hole for the arm rests, or did you make a hole yourself? I thought about making a hole for mine, but wasn't sure if it would hold up over time without ripping, so I left mine off. Nice job.

Doug...had to cut a small hole for the armrests and headrests. These are universal seat covers and not HHR covers...but they seem like they will work fine for now.

I did write to a couple people who bought the leather look ones I posted a while back and got a couple responses. One person had just bought them and said they fit like a glove...the other person bought them a month or 2 ago and said they had already taken them off because they were cheap and didn't last.

Guess I can't expect a whole lot for $60...but it's a far cry better than paying a couple hundred bucks for seat covers...but that's just me trying to be thrifty.

I only paid $29 for mine, but I'll bet yours are a lot thicker and better made than the one's I bought. Mine are very thin and do not fit as snug as yours. I'm thinking I should have saved a bit more money and bought something like what you have.

I have simular ones from wally world but are a darker grey, the only hole needed was for the arm rests, but slid mine over the rests to keep them clean..

The seat covers look nice as do the floor mats. I have bought seat covers from K mart as well as Wal Mart in the past for other cars I owned, but they did not seem to fit as well as the ones you have. I am going to have to check them out sometime for mine.

Deb

Those are nice indeed. But I have to ask. I have always bought leather intererior because I prefer the ease of cleanup. (Yeah I eat and drink in the car). And I love the look of leather. Especially the soft looking leather in these cars. The cashmere really looks good.

Covering the seats is a good idea to protect the leather for the next owner. Why not find a leatherette cover?

Another thing is these "leather" seats are vinyl coated so clean up is really easy. I have to scrub my wifes 2002 Spyder tan leather seats with a brush but they always come clean because they are vinyl coated as well. Old leather absorbed liquids. These don't therefore leather conditioner is a waste of money since it's not getting to the leather itself.

To see if your leather is vinyl coated take a rag and some cleaner. Rub hard between the seat back and seat. If the rag picks up the dye its not coated. If not it is and thats a good thing!!

My brother just uses a towel to sit on.

I did buy some cheap carper mats to keep the original equipt looking new though but they look like what I replaced. Of course we don't get snow and slush here so rubber is not needed as much as in snow country.

Kingfrog...I have cloth seats in my HHR...which I bought right off the lot. I've never been big on leather seats, as here in Colorado they are really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter, so all my cars have always had cloth seats. I was lucky, as it had everything I wanted except running boards and I got them about a month or so later though. Thanks for the great tips on the leather seats though...I'm sure it will come in handy for those who do have leather.

The seat covers could fit a little better, but for the price, I can't complain. Best $30 I've spent in a while and definitely a far cry better than cleaning the seats all the time...even rain stains these cloth seats like nothing I've ever seen before.

I have the same front floor mats as you Deb, and K-Mart also has same Chevy floor mats for the rear. I bought the rear set during my trip to Daytona because i never find them here in Canada. My front set came from my local Wal-Mart in Canada but never got the rear set

I got those same floor mats myself, and the matching rear ones too from Strauss.
