Running boards or SS effects?

Looking at some photos Im liking the SS side effects alot. Do they add any/as much protection as the standard running boards?

If for no other reason than being functional, I'd get the running boards. The ground effects you'd have to step over, the running boards you can actually stand on. I don't know about the protection given by the ground effects but they must be decent or Chevy would have put the same protection on the rear fendors as on non-SS HHRs.

Mike's right, I have the SS and am constantly leaving scuff marks on mine. Although I do like the look, I also like the look of the Running boards on my wifes, and much more functional.

I was at our local dealer the other day and they had a 2008 "Special" on the showroom floor. It had the boards on it that are on the SS. I asked why it had "Special " on the back and the salesman couldn't really give me a clear answer. The color was a really dark gray, with cloth interior, sun roof and spoiler. I was excited I thought when I first saw it it was an SS.... have yet to see one.

Question where to purchase?

Does anyone know where you can purchase a set of the SS ground effects? I was searching gmpartsdirect.com and I couldn't find any on there...I would like to get a set of the SS effects to replace my running boards. I just don't care for the black accent on the running boards...

I owned a Black LT and now have an Orange SS so I've had experience with both. Neither are going to give perfect protection and the difference between the 2 would be very miniscule. With both I have never stepped on or scuffed them. I did (as well as some other members) have a problem with the Running Boards Insert bulging in the middle.

GM Part number 19202876 for the ground effects.
They only come Black, Victory Red, and Imperial Blue. For whatever reason they dont sell them primered or "unpainted"
