Stone guard protection...
This is probably a quick answer for somebody...
While shopping for a used HHR, I saw one that had a color-matched plastic stone guard protector piece, mounted to front face of the 'flare' area on the rear door - as wide as the flare part that sticks out, and about 10-12" tall. Anyone know about these?

Was a dealer/factory installed part on older HHRs to help keep the doors from looking like poop when hit by stones/sand/etc if you didn't have side running boards installed.. On my 09 all they use is a clear piece of vinyl protector.

Yeah the stone guards went away in the middle of the '07 model year to be replaced by clear vinyl. If you ordered the running boards they were deleted, some folks had the running boards installed and kept the guards for extra protection. I'm not sure if they were a better idea than the clear anti-chip film or not, you can still get the odd chip even with the boards.

The stone guard protectors nick and pit as bad or worse than the door paint. They are easier to repaint than the whole door though. My solution which some like and some don't.
Tape them off and paint them with two good coats of spray on bed liner......Have stayed nice looking ever since......

Yeah that was me that wanted to get them and Chrome them.
I even posted a pic of a '49 Chevy Sedan Delivery with Stainless Steel ones on it.(pic in my gallery, Click the Camera<)
I'd Love to have that sedan delivery, it's Black too.
There is a "Project" sedan delivery on craigslist here, but it's ROUGH and would NEED tons of work and they want 3,500.00 for it, no motor or trans missing alot of stuff. (Been for sale a long time now)

I just bought the clear 3M guards last month. I wasn't to successful installing them. (They didn't stick very well) There are 2 pcs, one big and one smaller one. The dealer will charge around $30 a piece. Even for the smaller one.
