Stull Grilles

I posted this once before but here I go again. Has anyone installed this type of grill? They look good at a reasonable price for both the upper and lower. If so, it says some cutting required and I want to know what and how much cutting. Thanks for any and all responses.

Yours looks like a Stull? I only say that because the difference I noticed was the top grill bar is wider.

You need to remove your stock grille and cut out the lower center section beneath the top bar. The Stull kit leaves the side of the frame intact, but requires a steady hand to cut along the "line" running down the sides of the grille just outside the 4-bars (look at your grille to see this line). A good jigsaw with a fine blade works well.

You can see the stock frame around the perimeter:

Hope it helps,

If you are referring to my avitar it is a Carriage Works. It requires cutting off the top of OEM grille.

Mike, I think most people would be wise to cut the plastic by hand, jigsaws in some peoples hands can spell disaster.

I agree about the disaster part - but the HHR's grille is a metallized plastic (with copper sheet vulcanized on for plating purposes). This makes cutting straight lines by hand with a hacksaw difficult. The Carriage works grille is easier as it only requires cutting a short distance across (about 1-inch), while the Stull "cut up" grille requires some LOOONG straight lines up both sides.

I would recommend doing the rough cut with a fine jigsaw, then fine-tuning the edges with a Dremel or hand sander.

Just my

Cutting wheel or Dremel work the best. Then you have to block sand after the cuts.
