i believe that circle is for the onstar speaker, do u have onstar? i dont ,. no need for it and to expensive. have my cell phone with me that is as good as the on star. i really believe the onstar is a waste of money, i think you have to be in your car a lot to make it worth while.

I thought Onstar is built into the rear view mirror. Maybe thats just the Onstar button on the mirror. I agree about Onstar not being worth it.

little white light

the only logical thing i can think of for the white light by the sun roof is that it lights up the space where the e brake and stuff are...just a little so you dont have to turn on your interior lights to see stuff when you dont have to...dunno if it helps and i hope i explained it clearly

I'm not too happy with the little white light. I have the Mirror with the compass and I'm more use to reaching up more towards the sunroof button for interior lights then the ones in the actually mirror that came with it.
That's where the On Star microphone is located with On Star equipped HHR's.

The little white light allows you to see the window switches and can be easily changed.

Dude, I urge you to rethink your opinion. Your cell phone does you NO GOOD when you are unconsious after an accident. Your cell phone won't find your car when it is stolen. Your cell phone doesn't always have a signal, try calling for help when you cell phone is out of range or the battery is dead.
Of course, you may never need On Star, and I hope you don't, but when you do, you won't think it's " too expensive". That's cave man thinking ( or you've never been in an accident ).
On Star gives you directions when you are lost, phones the nearest hotel when you are tired, gives you your location when you ask and most important, On Star will give you a read out of your engine specs and email you each month with your oil change info, engine info, and if anything is wrong, will tell you.
At any time, you can call On Star and they will run a diagnostic check for you on the spot. When that "service engine" light comes on, who you gonna call with your cell phone?
On Star is too expensive?? Please.

Seems like that on-star does everything. Probably can track your speed also.
Someday you may get a citation, and you won`t be able to contest it.
It`s gonna remind you to change the oil too.
