Touch up paint!

Using Dealer touch up paint bottle
I had purchased the GM Imperial Blue Metallic paint from the dealer. I used it today for the first time and used the brush part. I did notice that the paint bottle has a note "to use the pen, open the cap and remove the orange insert". What this does is allow the paint to flow up into the cap and when you remove the clear plastic cover the "pen" part is uncovered. This looks just like a ball point pen tip but allows the bottles paint to flow in a very controlled manner for making the application to the chip hole very precise. if your bottle has that feature give it a try. I had a chip caused by bug remains on the edge of the hood bend where it meets the grill assembly. What I did was to open the hood (to level the chip hole), stand on a stool and apply the paint with the brush. If you use the brush, just make sure that you don't have a blob of paint on the edge. It came out almost undetectible. The only prep was to wash the car first to make sure there wasn't dirt in the chip area. With touch up paint, less is better as you don't want a high bump where you do the touch up. Good Luck.

you need to remove the wax first, so wipe the area with a little rubbing alcohol.
fill in the area in layers, building it up over the level of the surrounding paint.
let it dry for 24 hours
then buff it out with a d/a polisher.

When I did this I just used the directions here: directions - you can probably use them too although you didn't get your paint there.
