I like to use fishing line to cut the tape, place it behind emblem and then saww it back and forth with pulling, then use goo gone or desolve-it to remove the remaining sticky stuff

I've always used a hair dryer- when the emblem gets hot enough, many times it can just be pulled off, although I've used fishing line too. (For reference, a hair dryer will not ruin the paint or do any irreversible harm to your HHR)

I used an eraser wheel, just took a plastic putty spreader to get them off, and then the wheel to get the tape off the paint.

If your not into fishing, you can also try dental floss, worked fine for me. Goo-Gone also cleaned off the rest of the residue.

I just grabbed them and pulled, then used my thumb to rub off any extra 2-sided tape. Cheap easy, efficient, no tools, just go slow. A hot day does help (hairdryer). I've been doing this to cars for ever w/o any problems. Thank God they don't rivet them on anymore, that was a little more work!

And they don't have the locating holes either. I pulled one from the tailgate on a suburban and there were 2 holes that had to be filled and painted. The emblem was only held on with double sided tape, but it had 2 post that went into the holes to make sure it was on straight. The new method is much better!
