adding bluetooth

Hi! New HHR owner as of yesterday. I have looked through the forums but am still confused. My car is an 09 2lt. It has the pioneer system. It does not have an on star mirror or the usb port. It does have the steering wheel control buttons for bluetooth. Do I need an onstar mirror and a bluetooth module? Or can I not have bluetooth through the factory system? I dont. Need onstar. I will try to scrounge the parts from a scrap yard. Are the modules the same on all gm cars from that year? If anyone has done this any help would be appreciated. Dont want to throw money at parts that wont work. Thanks!

Save yourself a headache and major $'s - just buy a portable Bluetooth speaker unit that hangs on the visor - or buy a fully integrated aftermarket unit like the PARROT MKi9200.

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...t=21559&page=4 has a mess of info.

I put in a VCIM module from a Cadillac which had blue tooth. I bought it from Schram's Auto Parts. It worked great but it is programmed for a 2010 Cadillac, which has the same part number as HHR module, so Onstar thought my car was a Cadillac not my HHR. I took it back out because I still wanted my Onstar. I will probably buy a new module for my HHR and have it programmed to my car. Once the module is programmed to a car it can't be re prograamed to another car. I have the Cadillac module that I was trying to sell on this site. I paid $100 and would like to get that for it. They are almost $300 new from GM. You could put in this module and have bluetooth just like it came from the factory with it. You can't have Onstar that recognizes your HHR, it will come up as a Cadillac.

Hello I too put a Bluetooth/On-Star VCIM in my 08.

But in your case it would be really.....really....hard. Because you don't have On-star now = no Module to swap out. So its not pre-wired. Bluetooth and On-Star are in the same box. 2nd The microphone is in the headliner. This is how you pair your phone which I assume you don't have and as you mentioned the On-Star mirror.
