Aftermarket sub in factory hole

What is the advantage of replacing the Pioneer 8" Sub with an aftermarket 8" sub in the same hole? Would it sound better?

You would have to get an aftermarket amp too, or it wouldn't be worth it.

I just replaced my factory sub with a Rockford P1 and a 150 watt RMS amp. It sounds better than stock, but I would still like it a little louder. I'm thinking about adding a 10'' in a ported box that I can take out if I need to haul something.

If I could do it over again, I think I would leave the factory sub alone and just add an enclosed sub.

Is it possible to, and what would be all involved in installing a sub where the factory one would go? The advantage would be better sound quality, loudness, and amount of bump that you would want. If you change the speaker out depending on what you replace it with you'll prob. have to change the amp along with it.

It's attached to a molded in section of the factory plastic subwoofer box. I have a pic that I can post I just have to find it.

i have a kicker 8 and a rockford sub, i i got a 300 watt amp in case i wanted to go bigger later. i think it has plenty of bass, or at least it has more than the rest of the stereo can handle.

I thought you said you didn't want to much bass. Mine was to much
You'll just end up building a big box and putting more subs then you need and a bigger amp then you want anyway.

Is there any special modification that needs to be done to the sub hole before installing a new 8" sub (screw holes, depth, etc)?

Thanks!

On the inside there are some plastic "ribs" that can be trimmed off to gain a little room, but I still had to use a spacer ring. I made one out of plywood. I'm not sure if you can buy them or not as I'm still new to car audio.

You're right stick, I should have gone for more than I needed. It's easier/cheaper to just turn it down than buy new equipment.

@captain howdy - Did you caulk around the sub? Does the stock box need to be completely sealed to sound the best?

Nah. You're seeing the foam strip that goes around the hole on top of the spacer ring. If your using a sealed box like the one from the factory then of course it needs to be copletely sealed to sound it's best.
