Alpine fitment

Wife finally gave the green light for a new head unit since the rear channel on the factory unit went out. I will be buying from Crutchfield but have one question before I place my order. I am in Love with the Alpine units specifically the CDE-135BT and CDE-143BT. The fitment guide shows these units will not fit in the HHR. Chatted with tech support and he said it is due to the 6.525 mounting depth. Anyone have experience with the Alpine head units not fitting. If the Alpine is a no go I will likely go with the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X596.
