Alpine IVA-W505 Installed - Help Needed

... well... it's almost installed. Actually, it's not really that close. All I've done is dremeled out the back wall of the stereo cavity to allow it to fit and mounted it (to make sure the bracket from my old Pontiac Torrent would work). I need some help though. I ordered the GMOS-LAN-04 and need a bit of help setting it up. I had one that I am pretty sure was dead as I couldn't even get power to the headunit. My question is, do you not hook up the individual speaker wires out of the headunit? The directions say to use the 4 rca plugs on the GMOS and plug them into the headunits front and rear amp outputs. I have never had an install where you do not crimp or solder the individual speaker wires to their respective matches on the aftermarket harness. Any insight on successful GMOS-LAN-04 installs would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!!

Don't make the install more difficult than it really is. Plug up everything minus the speaker wires and hook up the RCA cables...lay everything back in the dash and hook up ALL molex plugs to the surrounding faceplate then turn on the unit. If you have sound, then you are good to go. The GMOS 04 is a relatively plug-and-play unit.

Happy Hunting!

Hey superdave. I did just that - removed the PAC-TR7, bluetooth unit, and all the navigation wires and did not get the unit to power up. The harness must be "dead". I had simply never used a harness before where you did not need to connect all the individual speaker wires - seemed very odd. It seems, from your post, that I was doing it correctly. To Amazon I go.

If the unit does not turn on directly, hook the red and yellow wires of the Alpine harness to the yellow wire of the radio harness and the black wire to the black wire of the harness. If it does not turn on then, you have a bad unit. But all of my time working with Alpine tells me this is 99.9999999% impossible.

Let me know what you find.

Hey... thanks for the reply. I actually got my new harness in the mail and everything is hooked up and working. I had a bad harness - as I anticipated. Thanks again.

Ha... thanks. It was a mess. I didn't realize until after taking those pictures and looking at them on here just how different the driver and passenger seat are. Looks kind of retarded.

Nah, it gives it "character", like the LED mood light and nose warts on the non-SS. Id trade you drivers seats if it makes you happy.
