Amp Mounting

I keep my cargo shelf on the floor. I'm looking for the best way to mount my amp in the back cargo area. I do not want it on the box. Is it ok to put it under the shelf on top of the spair tire cover, to me that will build to much heat?
Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks.

I had mine mounted in the same location (spare tire cover) and it did get a tad warm in there. This weekend I moved mine. Since I never had the factory sub, I mounted mine inside the void where the sub should be. I will find a factory 'grille' to put in the sub location to increase ventilation, but so far it has worked great. I can access the adjustment levels by removing the cover for the tail light panel. Amp is completely hidden and nearly impossible to steal even if discovered. Plus, I can have all levels of my cargo area free by just unplugging the sub enclosure.

I wish I could do that but I have the factory sub still. I might just put it under my seat. I like the idea of removing the sub if needed. My single 12" takes up a hefty portion of my cargo area.

Where is the best grounding point under the passenger seat?

Also another idea I had was to put the amp and sub on board mounted to my spare tire cover and put the shelf in its high position and when I need the room I can disconnect my sub and put the shelf in the lowered position covering the amp.
My back windows are blacked out so it is impossible to window shop.

I've got mine mounted on the back of the drivers side rear seat and have my "shelf" in the higher location. Even with the factory tint, you can't tell I have anything in the cargo area

I have both my amps mounted under the cargo shelf with the speaker box on top of it. I have had no overheating issues, even in hot summer weather playing music for long periods. I would keep the grab handles unobstructed though, they serve as good ventilation.
Heres a shot of mine opened:

Thanks for the input. I'm going to give it a shot at mounting under the shelf.

I would say under any seat the best grounding will always be the seat or seat belt mounts that go directly to the body of the car.
