Supposedly just removing the chip does the trick. Evidently the BCM is looking for bad data not good data, no date = good data = thumbs up.

I recently posted a link to the Tech2 procedure for clearing the VIN. It is incredibly simple and easy to find. Unfortunately Mr. Goodwrench is too smart to look in any book or read a TSB.

So, a radio is a radio? Any OE head unit plugs into the amp?

From what ive read there has to be a chip there for the bcm to access. Removing the chip or cutting the power leg wont work as some radio functions wont work. Thats why I ordered some chips. Very delicate soldering needing special tools/materials and some experience to do it right and clean. Doesnt take much heat to lift the pads on the board. Once you do that its trash.
Ive been reading up on other gm forums on the Tech2 clone scanners. From what ive read they do everything the real tech2 will do. The only weak spot is the dc supply boards burn out but they are easy to replace. That was a couple years ago so maybe theyve fixed that issue. I believe ill be buying one within the next few months so I can do my own fobs, radios ect.

My tech , Cathy , used her Tech II scan tool , used the VIN relearn option , it worked!
yes the radio is the radio in all models, all years .
The 2007 has the Pioneer 7 speaker and amp system , the donor radio was from a 2010 6 speaker system
now , I think the only differences could be if I had the multiple CD option.
But who plays those anymore?
Cathy did say, they haven’t had to use one if those scanners in several years.
Thank goodness she’s as determined and cantankerous as I’m at resolving an issue.
