Headrest LCD screens on 2007

I just picked up the new 2007 HHR catalog at the CHevy dealer. They are offering twin headrest LCD DVD players with aux ins etc. Likely they are wired into the main system as the DVD player in my Buick is.
They are making the HHR more upscale from the factory if one wants to go there. Not bad for a wannabe econobox!

Me, I want to quite our HHR down with a Dynomat type approach.
Hey, CJ, did you go the Dynomat way when installing your new audio system?

The local after market guy has some new 8" twin LCD setups coming in at half the price of the of previous recommendations. Gonna look into this.

Thanks for the link. They look fine. They output native 480, so they will look fine with a DVD.
I checked and they do not have the color headrest I want at this time. Guess I'll check back, as we need beige for our HHR.

I wouldn't stay away from any of those. When it comes to LCD screens they are all just rebadged. The last time I researched this (when I put video in my truck not quite a year ago) there were only 3 companies in the WORLD that make these screens. They are all just rebadged, and big name stuff has the higher price tag. They might be a bit more functional as far as swivels, remote controls, audio or video input on the face, etc... but the screens are the same. Alpine "was" one of the few name brand companies who at one time claimed to make their own screens, but it's been rumored that they don't even make their own screens anymore.

Anyway, aside from that, you may want to really take a look and make sure the screen you get isn't too big for the passenger viewing it. I think 8" in an HHR might be too big in my opinion. Yes, believe it or not, there is such a thing as going too big. I put 7" monitors in the headrests of my QuadCab which was fine for the rear seat passengers. I had an extra 7" monitor that I had planned on putting in the passenger side sunvisor. After starting my fabrication I quickly realized that a 7" monitor that close to your face is just insane.

I've been thinking about getting some 5" or 6" monitors for the headrests in the HHR. They're only about $100 each and it will look factory.

that may be true but of the ones i have seen the brightness and clarity were not up to par like the higher end screens, the power acoustiks were extremely clear to be on the lower end of the price scale

I agree, the power acoustics is a good quality, two of my friends have them in their cars. But the quality is not any better than the others you have listed, at least the one's I have seen.

Bottom line, just find the resolution you want, the size you want, and the features you want, then look for the lowest price.

"EZ" you have my interest.....

In your research, did it indicate that just the screens were produced by the same manufacturers...or was it the total electronics driving the display? I have noticed several "top of the line" in dash replacement stereo systems to be surprisingly similar.

I know up to about a year ago, that same issue was in regard to LCD computer monitors.....but that was JUST the screen itself. The electronics that transferred and projected the image was individualized, at least according to Cnet and several others.

But, I may be interested in the GM DVD as a replacement.
