Here's a dumb question

This may be a dumb answer
My only thought on this is that it is nice to have your positives red and your negatives black/brown as it eases any future work.
If you have the same cable for each it may get confusing!
I'm no expert on wiring though!

The wire is all the same, but it's best to use common colors to keep things organized. Black is traditionally used in 12V applications, although a lot of people are using clear or other colors now for their systems. You don't need as much ground wire as power wire, just enough to run to a common chassis ground.

At the very least, I would wrap black electrical tape around the ground wire to make it look black. Otherwise, you or somebody else that works on your car could make a mistake and short one of your components out, ruining it and possibly causing a fire. I keep a supply of different color wires in different gauges. I always use black for ground, red for power, yellow or orange for trigger, then other colors like purple, brown, blue, or green for switched items. It may cost a little more money, but it saves a lot of time and grief if you ever have a problem and have to trace your wiring. Plus, it looks more professional
