HHR 2LT Sounds System Upgrade - Pictures

Hello guys,

I'm new posting but I've been reading for a while. I did as much research as possible looking for what I was about to face upgrading my head unit. I thought it would be a good idea to share with you all in return.

My current stock system is the Pioneer premium upgrade with the rear subwoofer. Like many of you know, the system is decent but lacks of several wireless connectivity and such.

Parts:
Defective module - Not correct signal sent to steering wheel - Returned
              Replaced iDatalink Maestro

              Images:

Head Unit with mounting bracket. I had to cut few "ears" from each side to make it fit properly.

              Inside stock radio box.

Cutting needed to be done since the Pionner is deeper with all new radio harnesses. Make sure not to cut screw clips on top as they support AC vents. No cables were found behind the box.

This is what you are cutting and what it looks like attached to the stock radio.

This is what it looks like with all new wires and such.

Using a bypass, you are able to play movies on the move. I won't mention which one I used.

              My ride.

              Sound:

Wiring the head unit to the stock amp made a HUGE improvement over the Pionner alone. We tried both ways and there is no comparison. The sound is now sharp and crispy clear. Stock subwoofer feels great and with a nice kick. Volume after 20 is way too loud!!

              Wireless Connectivity

Via Bluetooth, you can connect any smart phone (SIII here) (takes about 7 secs to sync) but the sound is terrific. Head unit MIC is useful if placed in a proper location. Still waiting for Android full support which will allow to view maps, apps and other phone functionality.

              XM Radio

XM sound is terrific and quick. Positioning the antenna in a clear location is a must!

Overall, an amazing upgrade from the stock (already decent) sound system.

I hope this is helpful for those looking to upgrade.

Let me know if you have any questions.

              Thanks!

Now just get a nice 2-way component set, upgrade the sub, and a DSP and you will be set!

Yea changing the speakers with the head made it much better. Where is the how and what for the amps and sub install, collecting parts now.

Those are terrific pictures, really clear, whats wrong with a tr7.

Looks awesome. Good job!! Lots of Pioneer users here.

**If you ever develop engine noise and are not able to track it down....it may be the dreaded Pioneer pico-fuse. (google search)

Now just throw in some headrest monitors for your passengers and you are all set.

The stock sound horrible, even the Pioneer. If you feel like spending some money look in to the Audison Voce 6.5" components.. Sound amazing! But a DSP is required if you want them to perform at there full potential.

That HU looks really good in there.

An FYI for when you upgrade the speakers they are 2ohm speakers so if you go with 4 ohm speakers you could loose some of your current output. That can be offset with high sensitivity 4 ohm speakers but most likely that will not be the case.

Thank you guys. Any suggestions as far as a good components set? $250 range?

              Thanks!
