Need Options for Rear Speaker Compartment!

Hey Everybody. This is my first post here at the site.

I just bought my HHR LT this past weekend and it did not come with the speaker in the rear compartment. I do not have the budget to go all out on a nice set up underneath the cargo mat (which would be sweet) but I would like to get something in that rear speaker/sub compartment. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You could fit an 8" sub or a shallow mount 10" sub I think.. Other people have done it, and I'm sure they'll have suggestions. In the mean time, you could use the search button to look at what other people have done.

You'll have to run all the wiring because without the 8" there, GM didn't put in the wires. Other than than, its just a matter of how creative you are and your budget.

So has anybody actually tried to stuff a 10" shallow mount sub were the 8" is located perhaps using the same box.
I have been looking into this and see that there would have to be at least 3" in depth and see if the sub box front is flat. Finally there needs to be about .5 cu ft of airspace available.
As you may see I am really looking at doing this for my car.
I know that before you all start saying it would be so much eisier to install a sub box back there, I agree it would be but I really dont want one. I have a 2 10" bazookas lying around from my last car.
I have yet to take a look at the sub box so any info about it would help.

Thanks for the welcomes.

Sirrocket, you pose an excellent follow up question. And I too would like to know what the box looks like. Since I did not get the sub with my HHR I don't have a box to look at. If you do take the panel off to see could you please post a few pics.

Also, does anyone know of an aftermarket box we can buy for that spot? I saw this question posed in another thread but did not see an answer.

Thanks!
