Need some input

I am assembling a low budget upgrade for my SS. I have the premium system and already have these components for the system from my old stereos...I am 4 new door speakers and subwoofer. What size tweeter do I need to buy? Also what input do you guys have for putting it all together. I am putting a JBL 8" touring series sub in the stock box. Thanks in advance all.

Mark

Mark, I don't remember the size, but you can get all the sizes real east from crutchfield.

One thing you may wanna know, the oem tweeters have a "filter" (sorry, don't know the technical term!) that keeps them from getting the lows built into it. If you switch them out you should think about using a crossover. The tweeters are pretty decent, IMO I'd keep them and switch out the doors and sub. A little less time and money.

It's harder to woof than to tweet
I just had to say it, but in reality you are correct that he would get bigger bang for his buck by concentrating on the doors and sub. The tweeters aren't that bad.

Thanks

I was thinking the same thing about the tweeters. The sub should do ok with a dedicated 250 w amp. I will run the 50x50 to the front speakers and the 18x18 to the rears...what do you think?

I am not sure what the specs are on the "premium" radio. Not sure you would gain much using the 18X18 in the rear, too bad you don't have something a bit more powerful for the rear. I am sure the 50X50 would help the fronts.
What are your speakers rated at?
What amp are you using for the JBL 8" sub and what is it rated for?
Are you thinking about just adding the amps after the speaker wires and using the stock radio?

I know, more questions than answers, but not sure what you have and are planning??

I plan on sticking with the stock head unit for now.
the 18x18 will only be powering the rear door speakers and they will be just fillers anyway...if they dont work out I can get another "vintage" JVC amp on ebay for a few dollars. Door speakers are rated at 60W rms. Just going with this setup for now and it should be good enough. If not I'll pay for upgrades later, but I have these parts laying around and I'm getting itchy to do some modifying. The MTX crossover would feed the sub and front speakers.

Since you already have the parts, I would go for it. You could easily replace the 18x18 amp later once you have wired it in.

Have some fun with the wire cutters, and let us know how it sounds when done. Especially the sub.

WOW! I like that MTX RT-02 (I believe that's the model number)

I had the 3 way version in my car in High school. (93ish)
