New sound system
so basically i have a 2009 hhr with the pioneer 7 speaker upgrade. i want some more bass and overall cleaner sound. if i only want to spend about 300 or less is it even worth it to change anything? if it is what should i change and how should i go about doing it.

The factory Pioneer amped system uses 2 ohm speakers to get the most out of the factory amp. When you replace the factory components with 4 ohm components you will greatly reduce your top volume level. There are only a few 2 ohm comp sets out there but they will be worth the money if all you are going to change is the components and run them off of the factory amp. You can use 4 ohm speakers just fine and if you get very sensitive speakers then you may not notice a difference but they would have to have an exceptional sensitivity rating like 93db or higher. I swapped out my stockers for a set of 4 ohm comps that had a 91db sensitivity rating and my volume was significantly less.
If you do a search you will see that many will say the same thing.
My recommendation would be a new HU. A new HU would eliminate the factory HU's built in volume dependent EQ curve. It will usually give you a higher volume potential as well. In the past it would also give you a cleaner signal but I will say that this factory HU has a really clean output signal. It is just very limited on shear volume level.
