it was easy but make sure you deaden the doors at the same time. That maks the biggest difference in my experience.

Did you rewire it or just use the stock wiring?

X2 on deadening. That is the biggest issue with the hhr doors. They have to be sealed and deadened to sound great.
As for wiring, my first install used factory, the latest I ran new wire from amp into the doors. Its a pain in butt, but doable.

You will have to make baffles for the speakers to fit, UNLESS you have the pioneer system. The base radio has the speakers molded to the baffles. the pioneer system the baffles and speakers are two pieces. I used 3/4 inch MDF for my baffles and the fit fine, with a lil trimming to the inside of the plastic door panel. nothing major at all

do you have the pioneer system. I have though about redoing the door speakers and didn't think about redoing the amp. i don't know how hard it is etc. i don't need a full system in the back and everything. i just want to look stock and get some better sound

I have the pioneer system

looks stock for the most part. I cut the stock tweeter location and installed JL tweeters there, and I modified the stock sub box location and put a JL sub there. I also added 2 amps in the storage are to give better power and more control over balance to the speakers. Well worth the effort in my opinion, but only after you deaden the car. It's a cheap car and rattles as is, if you add real power to the system it'll start sounding even worse.
