OnStar antenna

A while ago, I switched to Sirius and installed their little antenna. I have done a little research, and found that the factory satellite antenna should work with the Sirius, thus eliminating the need for the extra antenna stuck on my roof.

Does anybody know where the cable is behind the dash? I switched head units, and do not recall seeing it. My OnStar still works so it must be connected somewhere.

I believe the onstar unit is mounted in the right rear quarter panel.

Yes it was, I removed it already. But that is a great point-the cable must be there, so I have to remove that panal again (ugh) and see. I guess the antenna plugged into the box, then there was another cable running from that box to the radio. So if I want to avoid running a new cable to the dashboard, I will have to find that cable or the proper wires in the harness/plug.

Will the OnStar antenna work with anything else?

They did merge, and that is what gave me the idea. I really would love to get rid of that extra antenna on my car.

Lee....

This is a GUESS, on my part.....

But I believe the way the legal approval was worded that the 2 systems will still be separate because of their differing TRANSMISSION technologies (as an analogy....digital and analog transmissions....am or fm, etc). They will just be owned as one.

I actually did a search on the internet, and there is some talk about this topic. Everybody says it works, but the question is if there are more dropouts using the wrong antenna, since one of the companies uses satellites that are higher in the sky with a different orbit than the other company, so the angle of reception is different. But some people say this is a moot point in a car since it is constantly moving and has no effect.

I am just trying to clean up the looks of my car, and quite frankly I dont like the way it looks having my nice OnStar/XM antenna and then the small Sirius which I attached right behind. It is not terrible, but there is the wire cover going into the hatch, and I think it would be nice to have just one antenna.
